Launch of implementation of projects in Iraq

Following an intensive co-design phase involving consultations with a range of stakeholders from communities and among authorities, the projects will advance social cohesion, inclusive service delivery, and accountable local governance in conflict-affected areas across Iraq.

The Nabni B4P Facility is pleased to announce the launch of implementation of two Building for Peace partner projects in Iraq. This milestone follows an intensive co-design phase through which grant leads, sub-grantees, local authorities, community members, and Nabni worked together to analyse local conflict dynamics, identify shared priorities, and develop full project proposals grounded in community realities. Through this process, partners carried out local peace and conflict analyses, engaged a wide range of stakeholders, and translated these consultations into project designs aimed at delivering practical, locally relevant benefits for conflict-affected communities. These projects reflect a shared commitment to locally led recovery, trust-building, and inclusive peacebuilding approaches.

The first project, led by Iraqi Al-Amal Association (IAA) together with Ashour for Relief and Development and Ana Basry Organization for Development, will be implemented across Baghdad, Najaf, and Basra. Nabni Together: Building Local Peace and Trust in Baghdad, Najaf, and Basra addresses service-related pressures that can deepen frustration and weaken trust between communities and local authorities, particularly for young people, women, and vulnerable groups. Through a combination of inclusive dialogue, rehabilitation of public facilities, youth livelihoods support, and stronger channels for participatory governance, the project aims to create practical improvements in people’s daily lives while strengthening local trust and cooperation.

The second project, led by Kurdistan Organization for Human Rights Watch (KOHRW) together with Peace and Freedom Organization and Accepting Others Organization, will be implemented in Sinjar and Daquq. Building for Peace through Inclusive Service Delivery and Accountable Local Governance in Sinjar and Daquq responds to contexts where the legacy of conflict, unresolved trauma, and perceptions of unequal access to services continue to shape relations between communities and authorities. By combining dialogue, conflict-sensitive improvements to water, health, and education services, and strengthened community-authority engagement, the project seeks to support visible, shared benefits while helping rebuild trust and cooperation in areas affected by conflict and displacement.

As implementation moves forward, Nabni looks forward to learning alongside its partners and supporting locally led efforts that promote more inclusive service delivery, stronger social cohesion, and more responsive local governance across Iraq. More information on both projects is available in the Project Information Sheets here: Countries – Nabni Facility.
